spam

I notice that "Through a Glass Darkly" is getting hammered in the last month by spam that the rest of us don't seem to be catching. At least, when I manually added those URLs to the blacklist, they were not dupes.

If Jim is not going to be around, perhaps we should shut off his comments with the 10 day limit?

An interesting bug...

You may have run across the "throttle" response when making comments where it says, "You have to wait until you can post a comment."

We have two problems here, and they're both ugly.

The first is that the clock on the server may be off (I've seen it happen before) so some comments may seem to have happened "well into the future."

The second is that as we have more than two blogs on the same installation in different timezones, it will try to make you wait out the time difference: comment on a blog in EST at 5pm there, you have to wait until after 8:00:20 to comment on another blog set to PST.

Options? I can turn the throttle off, which is a minor spam-prevention issue. I could set everyone on the site to my timezone (or a timezone of your choice. Most of you folks are Eastern, aren't you?)

Suggestions appreciated.

Not sure what is wrong. Too much mail? This has been an itsog error for a couple days.

Trackbacks and Amverse

Please continue adding spam notes to the blacklist; I'm trying to keep it updated but your help is immeasurable.

Secondarily; I've moved Amber's Amverse up onto the front page (thank you again!) and I removed Through a Glass etc.

A new form of spam

Has anyone else started getting someone sending trackback pings to increase their links via comment spam? The spammers are getting clever. I'm deleting them as I catch them on Claimh Solais.
