JP continues to stock his campaign with info.
King, Oberon being the first king of Amber
Prince(ss), being the blood of Oberon, no matter how many steps removed.
This is not true in shadow and there are still nobles in Amber who wonder if this facet isn't a reason that the throne never seems without threat from young descendants of Oberon.
some other titles are recognized in Amber:
Duke, being a title of grace estate in shadow
Earl, being a title of honorable estate in shadow
Baron, being a title of merit estate in shadow
Lord, being a title of estate in shadow
Knight, being a title of merit regard in shadow
IMC, Oberon came from a realm where the Lords of Chaos were the high and titled. As such, he did not create a series of ranks of nobility in Amber. You were noble Lord, or not. You were someone he might listen to, or no. The senior of the House is the Lord/Lady, all children of the senior have curtesy titles but no voice. Spouses may have a title of their own, usually not, but curtesy titles of spouses are common.
Knight is nobility through valor and contribution to the Realm. Knighthood is not hereditary but might put you in a position to become a Lord through further service to Amber. There is a curtesy title to the Knight's spouse, but not the children.
This structure is example of how tightly held the real power of Amber was under Oberon. IMC, there are about 17 families that are noble. There are about a handful of living knights.
