First Series Purists: protect your eyes.
One would think after four years there would be an entry for Logrus. Consider this from AML stalwart RT:
To which K responds:

It always seemed to me that Merlin had an engineer's approach to things. This leads me to take the above quote to mean Pattern must be a different method of moving through shadow. Merlin digs out a less comfy, less adroit method (Logrus), rather than adding 'brainpower' to a method that has already failed. We see in the canon how putting Logrus and Pattern together does not work. Merlin shouldn't be construed to say, 'continue my shadow walk with the combined might of Logrus and Pattern.'
I also use the quote to establish that while Pattern travel 'skips' along through meta-similar shadows, Logrus travel 'cuts' a path across the topography of shadow and actually covers the distance.
In Patternwalking, you don't have an exact notion of distance because you didn't travel the 'real' distance, you made some distance in many different shadows along the way.
In Logruswalking, you do have an exact distance because you crafted a path and 'conquered' each step of the journey. This also applies thematically to the Black Thread/Road/Path/Tendril aesthetic. See MindThreads below. Distances would be huge with this method of travel— a good reason why Chaos flyers and winged demons are considered better mounts and messengers.
Amberites walk or use horses because they really aren't dealing with all that distance. Hellriding is even faster, skipping like a stone across a lake of shadows.
Logrus can work a shadow path in one of two ways: either cutting open shadow boundaries between two shadows and binding the boundaries together—like a gate, or laying down 'black threads' that can create a safe bridge-path of energy to travel. Both of these are 'tool' manifestations that deal with tangible shadow. You travel Logrus paths over the topography of the intervening shadows. So walking/flying a Black Thread would be the method of travel for a Logrus Master. A flying demon or mount allows your concentration on sorcery or Logrus use and conforms with the flying cavalry we see in the Battle for Kolvir and Sawall's flying demon that seeks out Merlin.
The strength of the Courts of Chaos can be pictured as power that is fortified in place and may umbilical across Shadow in response to crafted effort.
In My Campaign, the Logrus was a device created to deal with the encroaching Abyss and binding against the Abyssal energies. It succeeded very well, and later proved to have combat and secondary uses that led to great power and success in the various conquests of the Courts of Chaos. Much later this led to a rigid power structure that downplayed respect for the innovation and risks that had created the Logrus. I believe Zelazny through Merlin suggests the Logrus is the ultimate tool of which the Swiss Army Knife is only a pale shadow.
While Pattern and Logrus movements through shadow are 'walking', the experience and metaphysics are quite different.
