Movie Review 2008 #61: Thir13en Ghosts

A horror movie starring Tony Shalhoub and F Murray Abraham.

When Cyrus Kriticos (Abraham), a very rich collector of unique things dies in the course of one of his Ghost Hunts, he leaves it all to his widowed nephew (Shalhoub) and his family, who have fallen on hard times, living in a crowded apartment. They jump at the chance to live in a new house, even if the walls are made of glass.

When the ghosts start appearing though, it seems much less of a heck of a deal...

Its a relatively entertaining movie. Amazingly, I think the backstory and the ideas of the movie, that of a ghost hunter using spells to contain ghosts for an infernal goal, are better than the actual execution. The execution of the movie doesn't quite rise to the level of the material's potential. Abraham does all right, as does Shalhoub, but the rest of the movie is only okay, and the direction could have been a bit better.

Still, the movie is entertaining, and even with the average directing, the visuals are okay. I liked the Glass House a lot.

Horror movie fans might enjoy it in the same vein that I did, others are going to not really care about the movie.
