Gamemastering Character Concepts
What can I say? Roleplaying is on my brain. I was thinking about the one game I played in and realized that the big thing a lot of GM's miss out on is catering to the character's concept. If you...
Better GMing
Better GMing This is something I thought of a while ago to help me find those descriptive words I find myself reaching for in game. In the old days I used to draw maps of all of my major scenes...
Rules for the GM
(It's been a while since I posted one of these. This next one is extremely important for Amber GMs.)Rule #6: God-like NPCs suck. Avoid using them. A character can have god-like powers, but he or she should still be flawed....
Framing
A long time ago I read an article on GMing that suggested starting out and ending each game with a piece of music or something that becomes a ritual that tells the players that "the game has begun." I tried...
Gaming: Reruns
At Ambercon North I ran Morpheus Calling for a second time. It was succesful, but I had a tougher time getting into character for the major NPCs (mainly Morpheus himself) and I don't think the game went as smooth as...
WISH: GM Role
Eventually, I plan to copy over all my WISH answers and other game meme answers to this blog from my old one. These are repeats, but I figure this will make them easier for all to find and read. Plus,...
GM Rules 1-4
In effort to put some content in the spanking new blog....I offer another reprint....
Strengths and Weaknesses
There has been a lot of conversations in the Amber blog community about mutipe GM, shared-serial campaigns. One of the things I like this idea is that it allows players to build a history for their character while being able...
Gamemastering: Going Against the Norm
I've been listening to an audio book in the car the last couple of days. The book is Basket Case by Carl Hiassen. In it, there is a scene where the main character, Jack Tagger, catches someone ransacking his house....
The Master's Council
So, after all the talk on the 20' by 20' room and seeing no message boards specifically dedicated to gamemastering, I've started a message board. This message board will be for gamemasters to talk about all the issues that can come up when running games. It can be found here: http://pub34.ezboard.com/bmasterscouncil
I haven't set up cetegories or even filled in all the information you would normally fill in but I want this to be a community thing, so I'd rather get some input from the people who will be involved before making all the decisions.
Masters' Council
The Masters' Council has moved to join the SkySeaStone community! If you're a GM, DM, Storyteller, Director or Hollychock God, come check us out! We're a forum for Gamemasters to workshop with other GMs and discuss the craft of running successful roleplaying games! You can find us at http://www.skyseastone.net/masters/
Old ideas to look at....
One of the reasons I tend to brainstorm ideas on this blog is that it allows me a way to go back and visit previous ideas. Going through some old ideas, here are some ideas I've thought about in the...
