I'm just wondering...

...about the use of Shadow in Amber games. It can really be a lot of fun, but I notice that players rarely take advantage of it. Is this because they are more interesting in arriving? Or is it because the possibilities in Shadow are extremely under-utilized?

It is possible for PCs to control their own Shadow-shifts in descriptions in much the same way as we read in Zelazny's books, so it seems to me that it may be a lack of use and practice (by GMs) that leads to people simply going through Shadow to 'get there' rather than having fun, maybe even taking pride in the route they take through Shadow to get there.

What do you think?

Plotting it out...

I am currently busy putting into action a new plot. I think this one will be a lot more Shadow-based than others I've been running. I've certainly had fun picking out certain elements and styling them for the game.

TKC which stands for 'Thy Kingdom Come' is definitely the Amber world that I'm sticking with. It's developed over years and I'm interested to stick with it and see where it goes.

It's complex, it has many aspects that have not at all been discovered yet, and I find myself commonly inventing more plot-lines out of the ones I've finished. Generations are starting to come into action.

I've even begun placing my one-offs in this world and then adding them into the mix of the major plot-lines.

Nobility has taken off and added depth and I like the King I've got because he's good and complicated with depths for the PCs to continue to learn about.

I feel that even if the game were to end, I would keep on writing stories here and maybe playing one-offs for my husband. It's such a rich environment that my players have helped me create, I feel honored to have such a great playing field for my imagination.

This film will be a rare treat. The combination of modern special effects, plus that whole 1940s era, plus the fact the film has that faded black and white look to it with added little bits of color here and there. This will be a marvellous treat for me. The trailer looked fantastic when I saw it at the cinema.
