UoP Detroit Accounting Class of 2005

Me, Alicia, Lisa, Kim, Regina, Colette and Nekia.

I was on a team with Kim and Nekia, and the rest of the ladies were on the other team, but we often all 7 worked on the group assignments together. We struggled through 3x accellerated classes while we all worked full time and many of us managed families. We struggled through the transition to 'flexnet' (the devil) classes. We struggled through all kinds of accounting and law and taxes and auditing together, and now we part.

Colette said tonight, "If I was as young and smart as Liz I'd go on and get the CPA and try auditing, but I think my realistic track is to try the CMA." I almost cried, because, you know, I could do it. They all believe I could do it, I think, and I was so touched she said that. Of course, I think she could do it too, but there is weighing of the cert's worth in our lives to consider, for certain.

Now I have to decide if I want to do it.

To you ladies who inspired me and pushed me and stood by me - I learned from you. I'm a better person for knowing you all. I will miss fiercely our interaction. I hope I see you walking in graduation in June!

Congratulations! Time to bask in your achievement. I'm in awe of any who can do that and work full-time.

Whatever you decide will be the right choice, and I'd love to share and support you in it.

You know, you just had to make me cry!! Damn you!! It was more than an honor to be on your team. You've enlightened me with your controversial conversations. You've educated me with your views. You've pulled me kicking and screaming through one of the most difficult years of my life, and you pushed me to keep plodding along. Go get that CPA, and when you open your office, call me. Thanks for bringing your camera to class so that we all could have a picture as a rememberance of each other. It was definitely a pleasure to have you as a classmate. I agree with Collette, I think you would make a great lawyer. Whatever you decide do, I wish you all the best. I'll miss you, stay in touch.

Wow look at our picture! I cannot believe we were smiling instead of crying especially after all the hard work we put in during the year! I believe we all have to do a little soul searching to determine our next move after we get our degree. Society beckons us to succeed- to achieve excellence in our appearance, our earning power, and our family life. God Himself also beckons us to be women of excellence. If the goal of our pursuit is not clear, we risk losing sight of what it is we're striving for. See you in June!!
