I Burn Grilled Cheese Sandwiches - Adventures in Cooking.

Because I am of the 'try anything once' school, I've let Kitchen Chick curious me into trying to do a Souffle.

Thing is, I don't really even know what that is. So, Google

A preparation made with a sauce base, whipped egg whites, and
flavorings. The egg whites cause the soufflé to puff during
cooking.

Eggs whites and stuff. Puff. Got it.

So Kitchen Chick sends me a recipe
and some advice. Quite a bit of advice, which is good, considering I
had to look up the definition.

Just when I start to worry about what to make this in, she tells me,
"Use a 1 quart souffle dish. (Basically any oven cookware with high
straight sides that holds 4 cups will do.)"

Thank goodness - I don't have to buy any new kitchen stuff then.

Now, Kitchen Chick can cook. I've had her food and LOVE it. I burn
grilled cheese. Really. My 10 year old has to make her own.

My husband points out, often enough, that I can cook when I want to.
When I'm interested, when I have time, when I'm not exhausted or
rushed. That would be... almost never.

So once I am over my current little head cold, I will gather up my
ingredients, my recipe, and my advice, and I will make a Souffle. It
will be my first ever.

Send good thoughts on this cooking adventure.

The only thing that will make a soufflé fall is if it knows you are afraid of it.

[I am not afraid. I am not afraid. I am not afraid.]

You're quite mad. I can respect that.

And good luck!

I can burn grilled cheese too. I did so last week. *g* Have fun... that's the important part... I don't know if I'm going to have time to do Kitchen Chick's IMBB even though I found this really interesting recipe. Anyway, I'll look forward to hearing how it turns out.

Just to add to the dish advice...

The closer to "only 4 cups" that the dish holds, the better. If you use a dish that holds, say, 8 cups of liquid, your souffle will be spread out and not rise very high.

...but even if it doesn't rise very high, it will still taste good!

I've recently burnt grilled cheese. It's damnably easy to do.

I wish we lived closer. I've the perfect dish for that. Le sigh.
